A Surprise!

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. There’s just something about being out in God’s beautiful creation and wanting to capture the ambiance of the moment I’m enjoying — whether it’s a fiery sunset or a bee on a sunflower — all of it matters to me!

Fast forward to January 2022. I (surprisingly!) felt a nudge to sign-up to be a photographer at the church we attend. This was an enormous stretch for me, because as I mentioned above, I enjoy nature photography. In fact, as an introvert, I usually avoided photographing people.

Well, sure enough, the church staff member got in touch with me and asked me to share my portfolio. I was excited, yet also felt the tension of knowing that he’d most likely want to see photos of people — and I had a variety of animals, birds, insects, and the like, within my Instagram account. I was in a bit of a quandary, but also felt at peace that it would all work out — and it did!

So, the next thing I knew, I was shadowing the church staff member on Sunday mornings, and learning many photography tips from him. However, prior to that, my husband blessed me with brand new camera gear — this is all a very long story, and really not the main point of my sharing. Although, I eventually learned how much this camera gear made a difference in:  low light settings and provided absolutely exquisite portraits. I became addicted! I wanted to find more and more people to photograph.

There was one more experience that solidified my confidence in this new endeavor — friends of ours invited me to be the photographer at a small event and I enjoyed every minute of it! It was an evening of photographing college students either posing in front of a fun background, having casual conversations with one another, laughing together, or snapping dance moves. I felt the energy of the special evening and worked hard to produce fun images.

Eventually, I had started to ponder if I could earn revenue while using my hobby to its fullest. Better yet, if every dollar could go towards our nonprofit, Refuge 91, Inc. — I knew that would be a win-win! Our friend, Drew, who has been committed to website development for Refuge 91, for nearly three years now, also took the task of Selah Impressions Photography’s website — including the online BookMe software. Drew also ensured the photography photo session booking payments would flow directly to Refuge 91’s bank account.

Honestly, it seems everything pertaining to this fresh and fun endeavor could not have gone smoother. This is literally another dream of mine, come true (to have a photography website)! All of it has been a surprise gift from my heavenly Father. Lastly, I love the fact that I will be interacting with more people and helping them savor memorable moments. How can I ever thank my Lord enough for allowing me to partner with Him in such a creative manner as portraiture photography? After all, His Word states that we are created in His image. He cares about every detail in your life, including the memories you are making along the way. How can I help you capture memorable moments? Please visit this website's Book Me Page and let's plan a photo shoot!
